Seriously, Hollywood? Will Smith + Old Boy = Why?

If you haven’t seen the classic Korean film “Old Boy” please watch it before Steven Spielberg and Will Smith ruin it remake it. Old Boy is pretty much one of the most amazing films ever made. The love story alone is deliciously twisted.  Why does this classic need to be remade for an American audience? And why Will Smith? When I think of this film I want to recall the original version. I don’t need Old Boy Will embedded in my memory. Sure, I like Will, but my thoughts of him usually consist of Xenu and trysexuality parties.

It pains me to know that the original idea is silenced because it will be the death of Hollywood. Wait, Hollywood is already dead, right? Its the remakes and sequels that keep it alive, right? Hell, Hollywood is already in pre-production for the remakes to the movies they haven’t released yet.

Spielberg and Smith’s plans to update have been stalled because the original makers of the 2003 hit are allegedly not authorized to grant a remake. Futabasha, the Japanese publishers of the original manga series, claim the producers were in no position to negotiate with Universal studios. Universal refuse to halt pre-production on Spielberg and Smith’s version and have given them the green light to continue work on the forthcoming movie.
