VIDEO: Tyler Perry Accused of Funding Plays with Drug Money
I may not like Mammy Perry’s movies but I certainly love his backstory. This bitch swallowed nut and hustled with drug Lords to achieve Hollywood stardom. Awesome. Oh, maybe I should say “allegedly”. Allegedly he swallowed nut and used drug money to fund his chitlin’ plays. And I ain’t mad at him.
In his memoir, “Never Would Have Made It: The Rise of Tyler Perry, The Most Powerful Entertainer in Black America (And What It Really Took to Get Him There),” Melvin Childs claims Perry’s success is a result from illegal investments made by drug dealers. Again, awesome bitch. Although, I do co-sign with the following comment on YouTube:
“If it is true that Childs helped to discover TP, then he’s responsible for creating the most embarrassing thing to happen to black people since B.E.T. I wouldn’t wanna go around claiming that.”
Childs also claims Perry used “risky deals with drug dealers, couriers carrying large bags of cash across the country; backstabbing and double-dealing with corrupt promoters,” plus other illicit means to fund his early work.
